Eileen Beales

Eileen Beales was inspired by her mother to stitch and had her first sewing machine at the age of six. She made her own and her sisters' clothes by the age of fourteen and at sixteen she was an apprentice at the house of couturier Victor Stiebel until he retired.
She has worked in hospital and a bank. In 1970 she went to Digby Stuart College and attained a Diploma in Education, specialising in Art, where she developed a love for ceramics. In 1973, she began work as a primary school teacher.
Eileen belongs to Braintree Art Society and regularly exhibits with them. She has studied 'A' level Art and 'City and Guilds' in Creative Embroidery Part 1 & 2. A piece of her part 1 work has been exhibited in the V & A in London. She has been part of 02Textiles since its inception.
