"Bygone Days"
Zoë sadly died on 14th March 2015.
She was a member of Ipswich and Colchester & Colne Embroiderer’s Guilds and produced a vast amount of exquisite work, initially proficient in needlelace, goldwork, immaculate or nuè and more recently beautiful machine embroidery.
Zoe first gained an interest in textiles in the early nineties and started studying embroidery at Greyfriars Adult Education Centre in Colchester with Jenny Noon.
Her interest developed and she went on to study City and Guilds in Creative Embroidery Parts 1 and 2 under the tutelage of Ann Brown at Witham, Essex. On finishing this course she became a founder member of our 02 Textiles Group. Zoe has exhibited with the Embroiderers Guild at the Eastern Regional Exhibition and the Essex Handicraft Association.
Zoe's interest in the natural world was the inspiration for her later body of work. Her work started with extensive research using her sketchbook and a variety of drawings, samples, collage, photographs and colour studies of butterflies, moths, chrysalis and cocoons. Her desire to reflect the curious construction of the wings and the wonderful colours and patterns that nature provides has led to the development of these themes in her current work. The microscopic detail of the wings has been of particular interest and inspiration.
Zoë was always generous with her time and concern for others and the first to volunteer when a job needed doing.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and especially by her colleagues in the 02 Textile Group. We have all lost a very special friend.
